Culture
CULTURE Navigation At Hartmann House, we offer one of the widest ranges of cultural activities in Junior Schools in the country. Aimed at developing boys for the world they will live in, our cultural program offers a vast array of opportunities and all boys find a club which they identify with and choose to take on seriously. Every boy at Hartmann House will experience each and every club in detail and then choose one that he identifies with which he then pursues and takes even further. We also have a wide array if optional clubs which the boys can take part in. Through these optional clubs, boys can nurture an interest which is not offered by in house school teachers.Through all of these clubs, we aim to prepare all the boys for the world which they will live in and at the heart of it, our motto, AMDG, to the greater glory of God. We also try to nurture values of team work, creativity, goal setting and critical thinking. Each discipline in our Cultural Curriculum has had many successes and looks forward to more in the future. Crusaders and Companions
CRUSADERS & COMPANIONS Navigation Helping and outreach are key things that we feel that our current society needs a lot more of. In Crusaders and Companions, children learn to give as well as to care for those who are less privileged than they are. Working with various orphanages and fundraising campaigns, children get to interact with children who are less privileged and we hope as a result, get to appreciate that which they have in abundance from their various homes. We have a companionship program with Donhead school in the UK which is another Jesuit School. In this program, our students regularly communicate with children of their age in the UK. This plays a big role in shaping some of the global perspectives of the children in appreciating that they are not an island unto themselves on the global scale.
Mass Servers
MASS SERVERS Navigation Sports The Jesuit ethos is at the heart of that which we do. Mass servers is an expression of this ethos. Boys learn how to take part as servers in a Catholic Mass assisting the priest in all chapel services that take part in the school. Most boys then proceed to serve fully in their various parishes and continue to serve into their years at St Georges. Mrs J Marimira.
Drama
DRAMA Navigation Sports Hartmann House competes in the First Division of the EPSA Athletics League, our coaches and boys work very hard for the school to stay in this tough division. Despite the number of boys in the schools that Hartmann House competes with, Hartmann House continues to be a top athletics school. Field disciplines (high jump and long jump) are taught to all boys. However, only boys from under 11 to under 13, participate in these disciplines at inter-school events. All the boys take part in track events, but only boys who are under 12 and 13 take part in hurdles. The four Housemasters are involved with coaching athletics, this gives them a unique opportunity to carefully select their boys and put them in appropriate teams for the Inter-House Athletics. The Inter-House is divided into two parts, prior events and main events. All jumps and the 1500m races are done during the prior events, leaving all track events to be conducted on the main events day. Other than the major EPSA meet which is held in the second last week of term, Hartmann House participates in the Bishopslea and the Ruzawi Invitational Meets.
Wildlife
WILDLIFE Navigation Our local flora and fauna is suffering at the development and recklessness of human behavior. Wildlife aims to teach children how to care for their natural environment in sustainable methods. Regular trips to the Botanic Gardens which we share our boundaries with as well as trips to game reserves make this a favourite club for the pupils. We hope to groom children who will improve our environment and not continue to destroy it.
